Estate Notes: Welcome to Chapter 3 of our Les Bouquinistes wine series. We (Coup de Foudre wines) conceived this project a number of years ago with the goal of producing a fun, delicious Napa Valley wine that would also generate much-needed awareness and funds for worthy charities in the most deprived countries of the world. Each vintage celebrates a renowned author committed to social justice. We worked with Nicolas Kristof of the New York Times and Pulitzer-prize winner, Tracy Kidder for our first two vintages.
Les Bouquinistes 2017 Chapter Three features Jacqueline Novogratz and her inspiring book, The Blue Sweater, which chronicles her organization, Acumen, and its revolutionary approach to tackling poverty in the world. Jacqueline grew up in Virginia, and at a young age, she donated her favorite blue sweater to Goodwill. Many years later, she left a career on Wall Street to establish Rwanda’s first micro finance bank. During her travels, she met a 10-year-old boy wearing a tattered blue sweater—her sweater. That moment illuminated and solidified Jacqueline’s understanding of humanity’s interconnectedness, of the way our actions—and inactions—impact people we may never know ormeet. Her time in Rwanda revealed the power of a humanitarian ethos to drive change, as well as the dependence created among the poor by top-down approaches to government, development and philanthropy.
As for the wine… Les Bouquinistes 2017 is our Napa Valley field blend, composed of 32% Petit Sirah, 13% Merlot, 42% Petit Verdot and 13% Zinfandel from our Calistoga vineyards. We produced 800 six packs of this vintage, and we’ve maintained last year’s very reasonable pricing for this wine even as it continues to garner impressive praise.
