Culled from vineyards whose well-drained volcanic soils, high-elevation and exposure to cooling pacific winds lead to early budbreak, followed by a long, consistent growing season that can extend up to 200 days. This unique terroir creates wines that express a masculine nature, in both flavor profile and structure, with suave, ripe, persistent tannins.
Voluptuous, masculine notes dominate the note — black fruit, dark earth and rich, chestnut-tanned leather. The cashmere-soft palate offers violets, charcoal, cured meats and classic Syrah garrigue, informed by a wonderful smokiness. While the ripeness of 2014 is apparent in this wine, its significant natural acidity creates a freshness that carries a lingering, kaleidoscopic finish of flavors.
Sourced from two hillside sites on the northwest crown of Sonoma Mountain. Harvested at first light in the second week of October, 20% whole-cluster, no crushing. Aged 28 months in French oak, 30% new. Racked once during elevage. Bottled unfined, unfiltered. 200 cases produced.
