VIN94 The 2014 Barbaresco Ronchi is absolutely gorgeous. The Ronchi has all the intensity these wines always have, and yet it also has a level of silkiness and creaminess of the fruit I don’t recall seeing in the past. Wild red cherry, smoke, tobacco, leather and licorice are all woven together in this decidedly unctuous, racy Barbaresco. I loved it.
Winemaker notes: Aromas of black cherries, light herbs, warm leather; concentrated yet balanced, with moderate tannins and good length. Hand-harvested. Fermentation on indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks. Aged for two years in a mix of tank, large cask and French oak barrels. The ‘Ronchi’ vineyard, at 960 feet above sea level and facing southeast, runs along the eastern edge of the appellation; the land forms a natural amphitheater. Soils are a classic mix of clay and limestone.
