2015 Benanti Nerello Mascalese

Lovely bright dark red color. Slightly reticent aromas of red cherry, rosehip, raspberry and minerals. Then lively and balanced, with juicy red berry and sweet spice flavors. Finishes with bright acidity and rising but polished tannins. An outstanding Etna Rosso; not the last word in concentration or complexity but grows on you on the finish. A blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio that clocks in at a well balanced 13% alcohol. (

Estate Notes: Pale, ruby red color. Ethereal scent, intense, with hints of ripe fruit. Balanced, dry, medium-bodied, mineral with a pleasant acidity and saline notes, red fruit aromas, persistent. 
Nerello Mascalese (80-85%), the indigenous red grape of Mount Etna, sweet and tannic. Nerello Cappuccio (15-20%), a variety grown on the volcano for centuries, sweet and delicately tannic. Vines ranging from 10 to 60 years in age. Trained with free standing bush (“alberello”) and spurred cordon systems 
Mountain and high hill climate, humid and rainy in the cooler season, with high ventilation and luminosity and significant temperature excursions
