2015 Patria Cabernet Sauvignon

WA95 A final blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Petit Verdot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Oakville Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a gorgeous meaty/earthy nose with notions of spice box, dusty earth and game over a core of mincemeat pie and red and black currants. Medium to full-bodied, it has gregarious red and black fruits in the mouth with spicy undertones and a velvety texture paving the long finish.
Oakville Ranch sits on the red Aiken soils not far from the Dalla Valle and Ovid estates, the latter being essentially on Pritchard Hill.

For the better part of the last 19 years Anthony Biagi has been crafting wines in Napa Valley for Paraduxx, Neal Family Vineyards, PlumpJack, and Cade Wineries and currently for Hourglass, Sinegal Estate, and Amici. Following his parent’s sage advice “Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life,” he finds himself extremely fortunate that he has been able to do what he loves from the day he graduated from college. Patria (meaning one’s native country or homeland) is the newest project made by Tony Biagi and his own, paying homage to Tony’s background as a California native.  Coming from the Oakville Ranch property that sits just south of Dalla Valle Vineyards and Peter Michael’s Au Paradis Vineyard on the eastern bench of Oakville, the 2015 The newest and 3rd release of Patria comes from the highly regarded Oakville Ranch property that sits just south of  Dalla Valle Vineyards and Peter Michael’s Au Paradis Vineyard on the eastern bench of Oakville.  
The 2015 is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Petit Verdot and 10% Cabernet Franc and aged in 100% new French oak.  My favorite of all of the three vintages so far, this is big and luscious.  Dark, ripe fruit is wrapped up in a warm blanket of sweet baking spice, toasted vanilla, roasted espresso, and aged leather.  The tannins are structured yet round making for a balanced palate with a soft kiss of acidity and a lengthy, affectionate finish.
