The 2015 Chianti Classico is gorgeous. Dark cherry, plum, lavender, spice and leather are nicely pushed forward in this attractive, supple Chianti Classico. The ripeness of the year comes through nicely, but without distorting the wine’s very classic, midweight feel. Although quite ripe, the 2015 retains striking minerality and salinity.
Rocca di Montegrossi is one of Tuscany’s under the radar estates. Proprietor Marco Ricasoli Firidolfi has been making compelling wines for many years, and yet Rocca di Montegrossi doesn’t seem to get the acclaim that is commonly bestowed on so many other properties. This is a terrific set of new releases capped off by the stunning 2013 Geremia, Rocca di Montegrossi’s Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon blend.
