VIN92 (the Syrah is from Les Collines vineyard in Walla Walla Valley and the Grenache from Upland vineyard on Snipes Mountain; vinified with 50% whole clusters): Medium red-ruby. Sexy, slightly reduced nose combines musky red fruits, mocha, cocoa powder and truffle, plus hints of roasted brambly dark berries and minerals and a whiff of wildness. Pliant and seductively sweet, but with its red fruit, cocoa powder and spice flavors enlivened by fresh acidity. Finishes with an enticing saline touch, a fine dusting of tannins and lovely subtle length. This very suave wine, which showcases the fruit sweetness of the 2015 vintage, spent 20 months in almost entirely used oak. Trey Busch admitted that the 2014 version was a bit more funky, with some herbal stem notes that this ’15 manages to avoid.
