2016 Domaine la Bouïssiere Rhone Blend

WSI95 JD92-94 The classic wine from this estate is the 2016 Gigondas (66% Grenache and 34% Syrah). Sporting a deep purple color as well as a meaty, rich, complex bouquet of sweet cherries, blackberries, peppered meats, and bouquet garni. Clean, balanced, with building minerality, it’s a no-brainer purchase and is going to drink brilliantly for 10-15 years.
WA92+ A blend of 66% Grenache and 34% Syrah, aged in vat and foudre, the 2016 Gigondas is a notable effort. It’s dark and muscular without being overdone, showing the suppleness to be approachable in its youth, yet with the potential to maybe even improve over the next year or two. Full-bodied, it delivers notes of cola, dried spices and ripe plums, all of which linger on the finish.
Estate Notes: Aromas of black fruits, pink and white peppers; flavors of blackberries and blue plums. Unctuous texture with silky tannins. Hand-harvested. Partially destemmed (58%) and lightly crushed, then fermented on indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled cement tanks. Aged in cement tank (35%) and older foudre, from two to five years old (65%). Wine is moved via gravity; bottled unfined and unfiltered, with minimal sulfur addition. Estate vines are located in a high-altitude, narrow valley between the Dentelles de Montmirail, a row of steep limestone cliffs west of Mont Ventoux. Top soils are thin and very rocky; sub-soils are solid rock. Age of vines: 50 years, on average. 65% Grenache and 35% Syrah
