2016 Macauley ‘Old Vines’ Zinfandel

With an initial bouquet of raspberry and a recurring note of maple, this is a full-bodied wine with freshness and acidity. It has an inviting layer of spice and hints of freshly baked cherry pie. A high-wire balancing act of weight and freshness.

Hailing from primarily century old vines off two cherised vineyard sites in both Calistoga and St. Helena, our ‘Old Vine’ Zinfandel expresses layer upon layer of blackberry jam preserves, strawberry compote and a touch of black pepper. This Zin sings on the palate with more expressive dark fruit and a nice touch of tannin from the small addition of Petite Sirah. The finish stretches very nicely for this varietal in somewhat of a short growing season. A wine that pairs with more than it doesn’t, drink now and over the course of the next 10 years.
