WSI93+ VIN94 Luminous straw-green. The enticing nose offers mineral and spicy nuances to the pomaceous fruit aromas and flavors. Complicating earth notes add complexity on the long, lemony, herbal finish. Very interesting and complex Coda di Volpe wine from the recognized master of the variety, Raffaele Troise, whose new winery takes the name of Traerte.
Estate Notes; Aromas of honey, wet stone and herbs. Lively and juicy, with a resinous, honeyed finish. Estate vineyards sit at 2,100 feet above sea level near the commune of Pietradefusi, some of the highest, and coolest, Coda di Volpe vineyards in the region. Soils mix volcanic “tufo,” mineral-rich and welldraining, with limestone subsoils. Full-cluster press; fermented on indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled tanks. Aged in tank on fine lees.
Since the end of the nineteenth century, the Troisi family has championed the wines of Irpina, a historic vine-growing area in northern Campania. This ancient region is home to the white grape Fiano, a variety prized in Roman times. The family’s focus on Campania’s rich history of grapes is exceptional; winemaker Raffaele Troisi’s father Antonio was one of the first growers to bottle a single-variety Fiano wine, while Raffaele himself was the first to bottle a single-variety Coda di Volpe. Vadiaperti’s highaltitude vineyards and pure volcanic soils combine for southern Italian white wines of impeccable finesse, freshness and character.
