“The holistic balance this wine possesses at such a young age makes this, in my opinion, certainly one of the best black labels in my fourteen years as winemaker at Turnbull—which I didn’t think I’d say after the 2017 vintage. A stunning representation to its flagship status as our ‘best of the best’ barrel offering”—Peter Heitz, Winemaker
This bottling is a signature selection of individual barrels that showcase dark, brooding, hedonistic characteristics, with dusty black fruits and an exotic floral lift. These barrels over-deliver, resulting in a wine of astounding purity and density. Opulent black currant and ripened plum compote that commingles with aromas of exotic spices, hinting to the brooding and intrinsically powerful core within. Surrender to its dangerously smooth entry and become enraptured within mesmerizing richness. Dimpled tannins accelerate with incredible focus and width, enveloping the mid-palate with notes of black mulberries, crème de cassis, juniper, and graphite.
“Black Label is a story of two alter egos coming together: Leopoldina Vineyard fruit meets Fortuna Vineyard fruit. The core of the Black Label comes from Leopoldina Vineyard; that’s where we get that big, darkly brooding fruit note with rich, hedonistic tones, and huge structure and texture. Then, we add fruit from Fortuna Vineyard to bring in more lift and focus, making the wine prettier and longer. These are two fantastic, but different, vineyard sites. And the beauty in their differences is wonderfully highlighted by this wine.”—Peter Heitz, Winemaker
