WSI94 JS94 Sweet dried fruit on the nose and palate. Prunes and dates, but also a fresh berry note. Full-bodied with full, fruit-coated tannins and a long, fruity finish. Gains complexity with air, pushing out a tinge of orange peel at the finish. Delicious to drink now, but this will continue to age nicely in the bottle.
WA93 The 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva is heady and sweet on the nose, as confectioners’ spice and dusty cherries give way to hints of pipe tobacco. It’s rich and velvety yet maintains admirable freshness, as minerals and sweet tannins add tension toward the close. I like the contrasts of salty and sweet here, as notes of dark chocolate and balsam herbs cascade across the palate. This tapers off lightly structured and staining, with primary concentration leaving pretty florals and hints of licorice. Color me impressed; the 2015 is a wildly successful Amarone Riserva. I tasted this in February 2021, yet today’s performance is definitely a step up.
2015 vintage was really special and it was characterised by a very intense light and by the sun, a long summer heat. Mostly the light depended by the cosmic cycle condition of the sun, repeating every 15 years and having reached the top this year. After a mild winter and regular spring, the strong rain falls in June brought some hail to a couple of vineyards, but, thanks to the following dry season we recovered completely and we reached September with unforgettable grapes: a great Vintage!
The winemaking technique is where this wine really develops its unique personality:
The grapes chosen and collected in boxes are arranged in a special ventilated room to be dried according to the famous withering process. Grapes lose at least 35% of their original weight thus concentrating sugars, aromatic components and noble tannins. In January, the soft pressing takes place fermention starts at low temperature(13th – 17th); the long maceration allows the maximum extraction of the fruit.
The wine remains for 24 months in oak tonneau French and in barrels oflarger sizes (700, 1500 and 3500 litres); After bottling, remains to refine at least one year before be delivered. Corvina and Corvinone 70%, Rondinella 20%, Oseleta 10%
