2015 Perfect Season Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley

WSI96 WA95 The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon (aged for 18 months in 78% new French oak) is deep garnet-black in color and reveals open-knit notes of warm redcurrants, Black Forest cake, cassis and ripe plums with touches of camphor, potpourri, sandalwood, bay leaves and unsmoked cigars. Medium-bodied, it has a harmonious frame of ripe tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and perfumed. 270 cases produced.
These are two exquisite Cabernet Sauvignons from Norma Hunt, the wife of the late sports pioneer and owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, Lamar Hunt. She owns this property not far from Peter Michael winery overlooking the Bidwell Creek in Knights Valley. She has taken advantage of this site by planting Cabernet Sauvignon on the rich, gravelly soils. The clones she uses are 337 and 4, and the wines are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, made with the consulting assistance of Philippe Melka. The estate encompasses 50 acres, of which 15.1 is in Cabernet Sauvignon vines.
Perfect Season is crafted by Philippe Melka from Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 4 and clone 337 grapes grown at the Estate in Knights Valley. the 2015 vintage was hand harvested on September 12 and fermented in tank and wood barrels. It was barrel aged for 22 months in 100% new French oak and bottled on June 21, 2017. Philippe was joined by viticulturist Jim Barbour in capturing the essence of the 2015 growing season in this extraordinary 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wine.
