2018 Bernabeleva Arroyo del Tórtolas Garnacha Vinos de Madrid

WA94 The 2018 Arroyo del Tórtolas achieved full ripeness and 15.5% alcohol despite which the wine doesn’t feel warm or too ripe. It’s balsamic and aromatic, and although it feels a little shaken by the recent bottling, it feels very complete, with a little more of everything but still in balance. I believe this will make a beautiful bottle of Arroyo del Tórtolas with a few years in bottle. 3,300 bottles were filled in February 2020.
Estate Notes: A single north-facing vineyard at 800+m with vines over 75 years old. Soils are very sandy, with little organic matter. Up to 100% whole bunches are crushed by foot treading and fermented/macerated up to 45 days. The wine ages for a year in a mix of used French 500l and 600l barrels. 180 cases produced.
