DEC96 Sweet, warm, respiring and earthy, with blackcurrant and goji berry notes of great refinement. Searching, long and deep, but delicate as well. An exemplary wine with a long finish which bodes well for the future.
JS93 A juicy, savory red with blackberry, chocolate and walnut aromas and flavors. It’s full-bodied and chewy, yet polished. Needs time to come together. Try after 2024.
Chateau Montlabert is an iconic property in Saint-Emilion. Since acquiring the château in 2008, the Castel family has devoted time and resources to the project, shaping a new history and a new ambition. For over 10 years, the focus has been on listening to and understanding the terroir in order to build a winemaking business based on a desire for sustainable excellence.
Château Montlabert lies on the Route de Libourne, and shares the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation with a number of its prestigious neighbors: Cheval Blanc, Clos des Jacobins and Château Figeac are just a stone’s throw away.
Montlabert has only thirteen hectares of vines planted as a single unit. The approach is plot-specific, the techniques modern; they include soil management, pruning and harvesting. Every activity is meticulously managed.
Chateau Montlabert has been Terra Vitis accredited since 2011, and grapes are grown according to the principles of responsible agriculture. 40% of Montlabert’s vineyard parcels grow volunteer cereal crops, giving better quality fruit and helping to safeguard people and the environment.
