This is a lush delicious Cab! At this price, this wine is vastly over-delivering on its Napa pedigree.
Smooth, bold, silky, juicy ripeness!
WSI94+ JD92-94 A 3,000-case blend that should be one of the great values in the vintage, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley just about jumps out of the glass with its fruit-forward, undeniably delicious style that could be drunk today. Notes of cassis and berry fruits, lots of spice and flower nuances, full-bodied richness, and ripe, polished tannins all make for a no-brainer purchase geared for drinking over the coming decade.
Winemaker Notes: A dark, exotic Cabernet Sauvignon nearly splitting at the seams with fruit and spice notes. The wine exhibits a completely opaque dark purple hue in the glass with a violet halo. Layered aromas suggest black currant, pine bough, pencil shavings and fresh leather. The dense, concentrated palate is marked by macerated blackberry, plum reduction, baking spices, loam, cocoa nib and crushed river rock. This big, complex wine will show it’s true colors after being decanted or with a few years in the cellar.
Caterwaul is a project between 6th generation Napa native, Matt Hardin and 100PT winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown.
Matt is a partner in Barbour Vineyard Management and is also married to Jim Regusci’s daughter, so when it came time to source premium grapes, they found their favorite rows of Jim’s prime cut of Stag’s Leap District for this wine. Thomas and Matt had worked together for many years over many different projects and a friendship was developed. Out of that friendship the idea of working together, utilizing the strengths of the other, Caterwaul was born.
