2021 Aftermath Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

This vintage is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Petit Verdot, all estate grown. Upon pouring, the wine exhibits a dark ruby color with a rim that leans slightly purple. The aromatics are delightful, with top notes of cassis, blackberry and violets, followed by hints of pencil shavings, black licorice and forest floor. The wine is medium weight, refined and elegant, tasting of cassis and blue fruits with a bright note of raspberry on the mid-palate. The nicely integrated tannins and balanced acidity show lively energy in its youth, and the long finish again displays the bright cassis revealed throughout. Initially made by Dave Phinney (2011-2016) winemaker is now Kevin Fox, with Steve Matthiasson as viticulturist. The vineyard is located in the Silverado Bench at an elevation of roughly 200 feet above the valley floor, immediately South and East of the Oak Knoll AVA.
