VIN97 The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder Estate Vineyard is positively stellar. As it always does, the Mt. Veeder marries translucent finesse with power. It’s a combination that works so well. Iron, crushed rocks, white pepper and citrus are beautifully delineated. Brisk saline notes run through this tense, vibrant Cabernet Sauvignon.
DEC96 The 2021 Pulido-Walker Mt. Veeder Estate Cabernet Sauvignon comes from plantings that owners Mark Pulido and Donna Walker (also partners at Mending Wall) established above the fog line in 2015, reaching upwards of 292 meters in elevation. The nose starts with super-expressive kirsch aromas, rose petals, and dried sage. Full-bodied on the attack, revealing a dazzling display of ripe blue fruit and blackberry compote, the mouthfeel is replete with gobs of firm mountain tannins that etch themselves onto the palate. This is all power and drive, a full-throttle thoroughbred with real polish and sheen.
JD95+ I also loved the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder Estate Vineyard, a perfumed, blue-fruited Cabernet Sauvignon offering classic Mt. Veeder sappy herb, spring flower, sage, and scrub brush-like aromas and flavors. With medium to full-bodied richness, a ripe, layered mouthfeel, and plenty of tannins, it’s a classic mountain wine that deserves 4-6 years in the cellar
