The fruit profile of Battle Vineyard exudes the savory fruit from the finer wines of the region. Hints of tobacco and leather combined with lilac fill the nose. Blueberry, blackcurrant and stewed plum are present across the entire palate and are paired with the distinct and abundant tannin from both fruit and barrel.
ACTA Wine’s core winemaking philosophy uses blending as a central tool, often only needing just touches of a secondary vineyard, varietal or cooperage to create a more compelling wine. However, from time to time the winemaking team comes across a vineyard and vintage combination that begs for them to bottle it by varietal and/or vineyard with nothing extra, just the pure example of that place and vines. ACTA has never before and will never again make this incredible “Deeds Not Words” selection from the Battle Vineyard in the Chalk Hill area of Alexander Valley, which typically serves as a vital component of their Alexander Valley Cabernet and as a part of the blend in their DEEDS Proprietary Red.
ACTA sits squarely in the heart of Alexander Valley and the property has history dating back over 100 years, including some of the old vine plantings that where intentionally part of the decision to make this the home of ACTA and rehabilitate this incredible piece of land. The Battle Family Vineyard, and specifically the singular block that represents this selection, sits high in the eastern, rolling hills of the Chalk Hill area. With a virtually perfect mix of well-draining soils and well-placed sun aspect, it gets intensity and character in a very consistent flavor profile.
