2023 Carter Cellars Beckstoffer To Kalon ‘The O.G.’ Cabernet Sauvignon

JD97-100 Coming from older vines and all Clone 337, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The O.G. is heavenly looking stuff, sporting a deep purple hue as well as classic Cabernet notes of crème de cassis, spicy oak, violets, and leafy tobacco. I love its overall purity, and it’s full-bodied, has a plush core of fruit, and ripe tannins. This is another heavenly barrel sample from the team at Carter, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it come in near the top of my scale.
Estate Notes: Heralding from our original block of Beckstoffer To Kalon grapes planted to clone 337 in some of the widest rows in the vineyard, this dense and ethereal wine strikes the perfect balance between power and elegance. With its inky deep purple color, this wines nose exudes gorgeous notes of ripe blackberries and dark plum matched with complex spices and mocha undertones. Sweet rounded tannins integrate with a plush and persistent palate making this a complex wine which expertly showcases the Beckstoffer To Kalon terroir and purity of fruit. As with prior vintages of this wine, the structure and power of the clone 337 lends itself well to an extended decant or several years of bottle age.
