JD98 From an estate vineyard in St. Helena, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Hourglass Estate sports a deep purple hue as well as a stunning nose of ripe currants, smoked tobacco, spicy wood, and graphite. Based on 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot and aged 22 months in 100% new French oak, it’s incredibly complete, with full-bodied richness, a round, layered mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It might be the finest vintage I’ve tasted of this cuvée. There are roughly 775 cases produced. Drink 2025-2055.
WP98 The 2023 Hourglass Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is made from 97% Cabernet Sauvignon (all See Clone) with 3% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it slowly emerges from the glass with youthfully shy, fragrant notes of cassis, wild blueberries, and lilacs, opening out to hints of pencil lead and mossy tree bark. The full-bodied palate delivers a firm texture of beautifully ripe, grainy tannins and a refreshing line to support the densely packed black and blue fruit layers, finishing long and fragrant. This should be very long-lived!
VIN97 The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is one of the very finest wines I have tasted at Hourglass, if not the finest. Deep, inky and explosive, the 2023 stains the palate with inky dark fruit, graphite, incense, new leather and pencil shavings. This vertical, statuesque Cabernet is a total ooker. All of this fruit is See Clone on 11OR rootstock. St. Helena dialed up to eleven.
