A WONDERFUL SURPRISE! Wonderfully aged Napa cab!!
WSI94+ Wonderful notes of eucalyptus, dark cherry and delicate red berries on the nose. Fragrant and expressive from the get-go! Beautifully integrated, elegant, with hints of herbs, eucalyptus, crushed sage and a delightful play between chocolate and earth notes and bright red notes of raspberry and cranberries. Lots of savory notes and a medium long finish. Plenty going on and very expressive!
Estate Notes: In 2020, this wine is still drinking like velvet. The mid-palate is dense and full of cocoa and cassis, and all of the more subtle, enticing secondary Cabernet aromas have emerged. The tannins have softened slightly, but are nowhere near finished with their evolution. This wine will continue to blossom with grace and ease.
George Hendry and his family have grown grapes on the same family farm in Napa Valley since 1939. Through eighty years of harvests, our connection to the land has deepened, and our knowledge has grown. Hendry Ranch is composed of 203 acres situated in the low, rolling hills just northwest of Napa, at the foot of Mt. Veeder, and includes 114 acres under vine. This location in the valley experiences substantial marine influence, allowing us to grow more than a dozen different types of wine grapes. All Hendry wines are made only from estate grapes, and are crafted to highlight the unique terroir of this very special vineyard. Each year, George strives for a Cabernet with elegance and balance, and one which reflects the character of the vineyard and the vintage. This wine followed the tendency of wines from the 2005 vintage to have a lush, deep, forward palate and dense aromatics. As a young wine, it showed “violets, licorice, chocolate, cigar box and cassis on the nose, with a full, velvety texture, dusty fine-grained tannins and a firm finish.”
