WA94 From a classic vintage, the 2010 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico TB is another Big wine, with a capital B, from northern Italy. This Amarone pushes all of the extremes with a long appassimento time (up to 120 days of dehydration), noticeable residual sugar (measuring 8.3 grams per liter) and a whopping dose of alcoholic heat (at 17%). The wine is closing in on one decade of age, and the bouquet has moved past any primary fruit definition. What you get instead is dried prune, rum cake, cherry preserves and sweet mesquite or spicy barbecue rub. This blend of 75% Corvina and Corvinone, 20% Rondinella and 5% Croatina ages in tonneaux for 52 long months. The fruit is sourced from vines that are up to 55 years old. This wine is only for the brave: Expect monumental power and intensity. Only 5,000 bottles were made.
