2012 Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Vintage Champagne Kusama Limited Edition

Initial notes of white flowers on the nose, such as jasmine, honeysuckle and vine flowers can be felt and then opens with fruitier nuances of apple, pear and peach. A few notes of fresh almond and frangipane complete the bouquet. In the mouth, the cuvée reveals more complex aromas: dried apricot, hazelnuts, honey and sugar candy. Silky textures give the wine its personality, elegance and character. The aging has imparted particular depth and power to the wine.

Veuve Clicquot’s prestige champagne, La Grande Dame 2012, is sourced from 100% Grand Cru vineyards purchased by Madame Clicquot in the early 1800s. Lively and elegant, this wine can be likened to a prima ballerina with grace, strength of character, and an enduring elegance.  With dried apricots, citrus peel and hazelnut flavors, the wine is predominantly made from Pinot Noir 90%/ 10% Chardonnay and can easily be enjoyed now or cellared up to 15 years.  
 
For a limited time, the infamous Veuve Clicquot Champagne House has partnered with Japanese contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama on their prestige champagne, La Grande Dame.  They have commissioned the artist to work on the release of the 2012 Vintage of La Grande Dame.  It is a collector’s dream, to own a piece of Kusama art and this piece is no different.  With her signature polka dot pattern adorning both the bottle and the gift box for this piece, Kusama hopes to send a message of hope and optimism to the world.

Yayoi Kusama is an iconic Japanese artist that focuses on contemporary art who’s medium is primarily sculpture and installation, but is also active in painting, performance, film, fashion, poetry, fiction and other arts.  Her art is recognized for its polka dot patterns.  She is viewed as one of the most important living artists to ever come out of Japan.
 
She is collaborating with Veuve Clicquot and the release of the La Grande Dame 2012 Vintage to send a message of hope and optimism to the world. It is with the iconic symbols of the polka dots and flowers that Yayoi Kusama adorns the La Grande Dame 2012 case and bottle. The polka dots, Kusama’s signature pattern, evokes the champagne bubbles. Created in honor of Madame Clicquot called ‘La Grande Dame de Champagne’, La Grande Dame perfectly expresses the Maison’s love for the Pinot Noir grape varietal.
