VIN91-94 The 2015 is dark, rich and voluptuous, with soft contours and striking balance. Today, it comes across as a wine that will drink well with minimal cellaring. The exuberant side of the year comes through in the wine’s racy, inky blue/purplish-toned fruit. There is quite a bit of brightness as well, but the fruit profile is a bit darker than is the norm here. Even so, the interplay of fruit intensity and freshness is simply compelling.
Estate Notes: The first nose of the 2015 Las Colinas Syrah brings blueberry, blackberry, and a hint of sweet cherry to mind, which is further reinforced when quaffed. A small trace of fig on the palate com- pletes the tour de fruit as earthier aromas are invoked. Complementing the strong fruit charac- ter, an equally vocal mineral tone of crushed rock is not to be ignored. As the wine develops, fresh thyme and rosemary mingle with allspice and cracked black peppercorns. A chiseled, lithe texture partners seamlessly with firm, savory tannin.
The Las Colinas Sonoma Coast Syrah is indicative of what is possible for cool-climate Syrah as it captures the essence of the region.
A blend from our single-vineyard sites, a sultry inkiness and chewy fine tannin set the stage for present enjoyment or lay-down potential. Élevage in 500-liter French oak puncheons helps to preserve fruit and spice, and affords graceful aging in the cellar. The 2015 vintage was the last year to include Syrah from the Timbervine and Cherry Camp vineyards. As our La Neblina does for Pinot, the 2015 Las Colinas Syrah captures the full context of the 2015 Syrah vintage, and offers both ageability and accessibility.
