JS94 Lots of mineral, crushed stone, iodine and graphite with blackcurrants and blackberries that follow through to a medium body with ultra fine tannins that are ever so polished and give length and energy to the wine. Drinkable now, but even better in 2023.
DEC92 With a vintage as widely successful as 2016 in this part of the world, it is no surprise that this is a delicious Pauillac de Latour that is easy to recommend. Clear notes of blackberry bud and liquorice root – both flavours given a qualifier to show not only spice and concentration but also good levels of acidity, freshness and sinew. The tannins were so prevalent during en primeur and in-bottle tastings that it was easy to miss how generous the fruit is underneath. A lovely moment to begin drinking.
Estate Notes: Dark and intense colour. Beautifully pure and fresh on the nose with ripe fruity aromas. Luscious and smooth mouthfeel with silky tannins. The finish is very precise and has great depth.
54.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38.9% Merlot, 6.5% Petit Verdot.
Château Latour is situated in the heart of the Médoc wine region, about 50 km north-west of Bordeaux, where the legend of the vineyards of Bordeaux began. Owned by the Pinault family since 1993, the Château’s prime terroir, l’Enclos, overlooks the estuary of the Gironde river which, over the centuries, has given the vineyard its geological complexity and, on a daily basis, ensures a mild climate. The Pauillac de Château Latour is made from vines with an average age of 25 years that come from plots known as ‘Saint Anne’ that are owned by the Estate and are situated at the southwestern end of the Pauillac appellation. We also use young vines from the Enclos which cannot yet go into the Grand Vin blend.
