“Era” is a testament to the history and incredible diversity found in the land at Chalk Hill Estate. It is the compilation of decades of site-specific research and the meticulous attention to detail that goes into creating a wine that truly represents the unique terroir. The history of viticulture dates back to the 1860s when the Latimer family first planted grapes. Founded in 1972 as Chalk Hill Estate, the winery has helped pioneer and establish the Chalk Hill AVA as one of the top winegrowing regions.
This wine showcases the Estate West Vineyard’s three best micro-farmed blocks (of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec & Syrah) that are known for volcanic, porous soils called Andesite for excellent root structure, and southwest facing slopes for optimal ripening and exposure. Winemaking practices for “Era” are geared toward extracting the softest tannins from the skins and promoting fruit and site expressions with barrel fermentation and aging in 100% French oak barrels.
A unique, complex and age-worthy red wine, “Era,” speaks to the site on which it was grown. Inky and dense in color, this wine displays fruit-forward notes of blackberry and blueberry that mingle well with anise, dark chocolate and smoky oak. The rich palate is balanced by sweet tannins and a velvety texture
