2019 Frederic Magnien Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru ‘Aux Charmes’

BH90-93♥ This is compositionally similar to the Mazoyères though with touches of herbal tea and underbrush. There is more volume though not the same refinement to the medium-bodied flavors that do possess slightly better complexity on the equally long finish. While this is certainly very good, and in particular I like the balance, it seems to lack the same presence as the best here and though that might change, I doubt it.
‘Aux Charmes’ borders grand cru Chambertin. East-facing; soils are iron-rich. Vine age 80-100 years. Fermented on indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled tanks. Aged in older barrels and clay jars. Unfined and unfiltered.
