2019 Greer Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Napa Valley

WA98 With only about three acres under vine, Greer will be a new name to many consumers, despite having been in existence as a wine label since the 2007 vintage. Located on Manley Lane in Rutherford, across from Staglin and abutting Morisoli and Joseph Phelps’s Manley Lane vineyard (an important Insignia component), it’s a fabulous location, and with the wine made by Aaron Pott, I was blown away by the quality of the 2018(98 points) and 2019(97 points) vintages.
JD97+ “This beauty offers incredible purity and precision in its cassis, candied violets, green tobacco, and lead pencil-like aromatics, and it certainly wouldn’t be out of place in a lineup of top First Growths from Bordeaux. On the palate it’s medium to full-bodied and has a concentrated, rich mid-palate, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. This is classic 2018 in its purity, freshness, and structure. It needs 4-6 years of bottle age and will have 30 plus years of longevity. It will most likely merit a triple-digit rating at maturity.
JS97 Floral and berry aromas with fresh plums and sliced oranges. Complex fruit character. Medium to full body with tannins that spread across the palate. You know they are there, but you don’t feel the texture. Lovely, perfumed and perfectly ripe fruit character. Pure cabernet sauvignon. Drink or hold.
Estate Notes: 100% estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon Aged 19 months in 60% new, 40% once-used French Oak from Taransaud, Bossuet, Sylvain, and Darnajou 658 cases produced.
