WP96 The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet-purple colored. After a little swirling, notes of baked plums, crème de cassis, and black cherry compote erupt from the glass, followed by hints of tobacco leaf, iron ore, and garrigue. The full-bodied palate is jam-packed with expressive black fruit preserves flavors, supported by velvety tannins and a lively line, finishing long and minerally. Pair with roast Beef, Grilled Steak, Grilled Lamb, Burger. (Wine Palate)
The wines are luscious, opulent and very smooth on the palate – beautifully extracted, concentrated yet the fruit expressed has clarity, great structure and very long finish – these can easily last another 7-10 years – or more!
Location: In the beautiful Saint Helena appellation, atop a slight knoll on the valley floor, sit 22 idyllic acres of black loam and crushed gravel.
The Vineyards: Gentle slopes, loamy soil and compacted alluvial deposits from the Napa River offer great drainage and temperate conditions, perfect for slow-ripening fruit and complex flavors. Replanted in 2002/2003 after extensive geological and meteorological testing, clones 4, 6, 7, 169, 191, and 337 of Cabernet Sauvignon, and V29 Musque clones of Sauvignon Blanc are densely planted with vines pruned in the two straight cane style. Lower yield harvests result in exceptional flavors and sophistication.
Winemaker: Thomas Rivers Brown
He is a winemaker focusing on high end Cabernet, for over a dozen wine brands including Schrader, Maybach, Revana, and Outpost. His wines have produced multiple perfect 100-point scores, notably “Old Sparky” by Schrader Cellars. Most impressively, TRB was awarded Winemaker of the Year in 2010 by Food & Wine and was the first American winemaker to earn 100-point scores from Wine Spectator. After several years of working with Panek Vineyards’ grapes for Pulido-Walker wines, and for his own label, Rivers Marie, Thomas assists Panek Vineyards as their head winemaker. Panek Vineyards is honored to have Thomas crafting their wines.
Owners Cindy and Jim Panek met while attending the University of Michigan. Work moved the two to Northern California where they raised their three children and developed a passion for the Napa Valley and the wines produced there. In 2000 their dreams became a reality when they purchased a small vineyard just north of Saint Helena. Through wonderful partnerships and a complete replant of the property, Panek Vineyards became a producer of high-end Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Jim and Cindy’s dedication to quality is evident in every grape and every bottle of wine produced.
