2020 Terre et Sang ‘Leave it to the Birds’ Grenache Peake Ranch Vineyard

TWI96 The 2020 Leave it to the Birds Grenache, with 20% Syrah in the blend, is medium garnet-purple in color. It emerges languorously from the glass with a beautiful perfume of kirsch, rose oil, and black pepper leading to a core of redcurrant jelly and black raspberries plus a hint of dusty soil. The full-bodied palate floats like a humming bird and stings like a bee, with wonderful grace yet powerful flavors supported by silky tannins and fantastic tension, finishing on a lingering peppery note.
WA96 Pale ruby-purple, vinified with about 32% whole clusters and blended with 20% Syrah, the 2020 Grenache Leave it to the Birds has inviting blueberry and cranberry scents accented by tea leaves, aniseed and Angostura bitters, continuing to open up as it spends time in the glass. The medium-bodied palate explodes with waves of berry, violet and citrus flavors. It boasts abundant, powdery tannins, bursts of juicy acidity that highlight its spicy accents and a long, detailed finish. Lovely!
JD94 The 2020 Grenache Leave It To the Birds is also brilliant, with beautiful ripe red and black berry fruits as well as peppery herbes de Provence and spicy nuances. Medium to full-bodied, it’s a ripe, powerful Grenache that stays balanced, has fine tannins, and a gorgeous finish. The blend is an 80/20 split of Grenache and Syrah, all from the Peake Ranch Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills.
