DEC95 The Merlot is one of the first grapes to come in off the property. We pick at around 25 brix, with a pH of approximately 3.56–3.60′, explains winemaker Mark Fasi. ‘We ferment in stainless steel and press off before finishing primary fermentation’. The wine is then aged 18–20 months in roughly 50% new French oak. This Merlot epitomises pure elegance, offering gorgeous violet florals and pure fruit character complemented by beautiful brown baking spices. The wine is layered with lacy acidity and ultrafine, intricate tannins with a silky texture. It is perfectly integrated, delivering a harmonious and refined drinking experience. The winemaker is legendary Napa icon Heidi Barrett. Mark Fasi, who joined the winery in 2010 and has worked hand-in-hand with Barrett, takes the helm as winemaker with the 2023 vintage.
Winemaker Notes: A Beautiful deep ruby red color with an enticing aroma profile that is wide open and exciting. Layers of ripe Merlot plum-like fruit with almost sweet aromas of toast, French Oak, caramel corn, and cardamom spice. Broad, silky, and mouth coating this is one of our best Merlot’s to date. It has soft balance but still lively with a long flavor profile. Tannins are refined and easy on the palate. This is a delicious Merlot immensely enjoyable upon release but will prove to be age worthy as well.
