WSI97 OB97 The outstanding 2022 ‘Walla Walla Valley’Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Leonetti Estate as well as the Seven Hills and Skysill Vineyards. Inky in the glass this shows off great depth and concentration. Dense dark fruits parade with tobacco leaf, dried herbs and shades of graphite with great stony essence. Drink 2025-2044
DEC95 Coming from Leonetti, Seven Hills and Skysill, a collection of fruit from both sides (Washington and Oregon) of the Walla Walla Valley. Gorgeous pyrazine notes of bay leaves and eucalyptus really frame a savoury depth and a real sense of elegance. There’s black fruit that mingles with umami and a captivating interplay of peppercorn, ample tannin and choke cherries.
JD94 A structured wine with beautiful bright cherry and blueberry fruit, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley is lovely and memorable in medium-bodied grip and weight, with youthful grip on the palate. Savory earthiness persists in the form of cedar, tobacco leaf, and sage. This wine should age another 12-15 years.
Owen Bargreen: It is my great pleasure to share an electric brand new brand in Washington State. As part of the Spire Collection of wines by Jackson Family, Jett focuses on hedonistic, yet well-structured wines from Washington, utilizing some top quality vineyard sites. Legendary winemaker Chris Carpenter serves as consulting winemaker alongside winemaker Gianna Ghilarducci.
Jett is in southeastern Washington State where the colder, rainier edge of the Walla Walla Valley begins to run up against the Blue Mountains. Our focus is producing wines that reflect the expansiveness and density of the sunlight and hills here. The vines are farmed organically with intense awareness of the details that form this spare, stirring place. Harvesting fruit when it tastes alive is what allows us to be attentive minimalists in the cellar. Beyond the Mill Creek District, we have ventured into vineyards in Red Mountain and Horse Heaven Hills. In each wine, we are looking for origin, energy, and harmony. Our deeper purpose is to bottle a catalyst for reigniting your mind and senses with potent bliss.
We hand-harvested grapes during cool morning hours. The wine was fermented in stainless steel and then underwent native malolactic fermentation in barrels to round acidity and softly integrate French oak (58% new). After barrel aging for 20 months, the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.
Gianna Ghilarducci, Winemaker: For me, the 2022 vintage just sparkles. It began with a very cool spring and early summer (Even some rare snow in April!) which delayed budbreak and bloom. Carefully attending to the vineyard, we saw the vines find their rhythm in July and August. With few heat spikes and overall moderate temperatures, 2022 shaped up to be a blissfully cool vintage. The real gift, came in October—warm, sunny days let the fruit hang longer,
resulting in great ripening and rich flavors. I knew we had something special as soon as these wines came out of the press. They were vibrant and full of life with bright aromatics and great balance. Our Walla Walla Cabernet, a blend of fruit from Skysill, Loess, and Seven Hills, really tells the story of the vintage. Think dark fruit and cranberry layered with subtle hints of Earl Grey tea andtoasty pie crust. Aged in barrels for 20 months in 58% new French oak.
