DEC95 This Pinot Noir is sourced from the iconic Charles Heintz Vineyard near the town of Occidental, just eight miles from the Pacific Ocean. It’s a dark-fruited, powerful expression of Pinot Noir, layered with rich espresso bean and caramel spice. Medium-bodied yet concentrated, the palate is lifted by blood orange and pithy grapefruit notes that bring freshness and energy, finishing with excellent length and a deep forest, redwood-driven character.
Estate Notes: Charles Heintz Vineyard is a well-known site for world-class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Located near the Pacific Ocean at an elevation of 900 feet, Heintz enjoys the daily effect of the coastal fog bank before mid-day sun ripens the fruit. The continual cool coastal air gives the vineyard a perfect climate for world class wines.
Montagu was founded by Weston Eidson in 2012 and from the very beginning has been focused on extremely limited production. Learning from mentors Russel Bevan and Jason Moore, Montagu is committed to producing wines that are richly layered, complex and balanced. Montagu Wines is a tribute to winemaker Weston Eidson’s great-grandfather John, the second Lord Montagu of Beaulieu and a British automotive pioneer. He was also the first person to drive an automobile to Parliament, gave the future Edward VII his first car ride, and his assistant served as the model for the iconic Rolls-Royce hood ornament known as the Spirit of Ecstasy.
