This great under the radar Red Zinfandel from Napa Valley is a beauty. Highly recommended.
Green & Red Vineyard, named for its red iron soils veined with green serpentine, is located in the steep hills on the east side of Napa Valley. The planting was started in 1972 on ground originally in vineyards in the 1890’s. The vineyards are a small percentage of the 200-acre property, which ranges in elevation from 900 to 2,000 feet. The Tip Top Vineyard is located at 1700 ft in elevation and faces northeast. The soils are red and rocky. Red raspberry/currant/blackberry/laurel lead to a lively finish laced with ground black pepper.
Green & Red Zinfandel has been on the wine list at Berkeley’s famous Chez Panisse Restaurant since the inaugural vintage.
This vintage expresses our uppermost mountain vineyard grown at 1700 ft above the Pacific. Dark cherry and raspberry aromas spiced with bay laurel and the surrounding chaparral.
