TWI97+ 2021 is the first vintage Jean Hoefilger started working with Conn Creek as a consultant. The 2021 Class of ’73 Cabernet Sauvignon is made from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, notes of kirsch, red currants, and black currant jelly soar from the glass, giving way to an undercurrent of dried herbs, pencil shavings, and mossy tree bark. The full-bodied palate has a rock-solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness supporting the densely laden black fruit and savory layers, finishing long and mineral laced. Like old-skool Napa with a modern twist, I love it!
DEC97 With Jean Hoefliger as consultant winemaker, there is a new emphasis on elegance and refinement. The Class of ’73 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of fruit from Oakville, St. Helena, Atlas Peak, and select additional sites around Napa Valley. It consists of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, aged for 18 months in 40% new French oak. This is a fashionable, finesse-driven Cabernet with true elegance and precision. Pure cassis and black cherry fruit are laced with tobacco and sprinkled with hints of white pepper. Medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins that are both present and lengthy and well-integrated. Overall, a tremendous effort from Hoefliger that offers excellent cellar potential
