HA95 94/6% zinfandel/shiraz from Kalimna in the northern Barossa Valley. Aged for 12 months in 50/50% French and American oak, 25% new. Deep, saturated crimson in the glass with aromas of deep, dark baking spices, blackberry jam, macerated black cherries, rum and raisin chocolate, sarsaparilla, brandied fruit and mince pies. Big, mouth-filling and bold but wonderfully balanced with chocolatey tannins, no shortage of spice and a swell of deep, black-fruited texture as it trails off leaving a wake of spice. Estate Notes: This wine is produced from our estate vineyard in the Kalimna area of the Barossa Valley. The area is home to some of Australia’s greatest Shiraz vineyards. Known for its unforgiving soils we felt it a perfect site to help pioneer the Zinfandel grape into Australia. The vines were grown in a traditional head-trained method, commonly referred to as “bush vines” in Australia. This training produces lower yields for more concentrated berries.
2021 was another really high-quality vintage in the Barossa. The red wines produced this year are quite powerful and plush with great depth and flavor. This was primarily due to the length of the harvest being longer than average. 2021 started out with a very wet record setting winter followed by mild, dry conditions with summer temperatures well below average. As close as it gets to perfect for grape growing!
Our 2021 Zinfandel is one of the biggest and richest Zin we have ever made. The aromas are of bold dark fruits with some lovely spice and hint of pepper. The wine is medium to full bodied and nicely structured, finishing with soft tannins and noticeable acid. The slightly higher alcohol than most years gives a nice welcome warmth and fullness on the finish. Best served with food. 95 cases produced.
