JM 92-95 A blend of Abbaye de Morgeot and Francemont. Medium deep yellow. The nose is a little biscuity and a little backward. Then there is surprising weight, largely yellow plum fruit, very good fruit/acid integration, and fair length. This wine does indeed show the power of the Morgeot terroir. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Oct 2023.
WA 91-93 Rich but tightly wound, the 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot (Domaine Louis Jadot) opens in the glass with aromas of peach and orange oil mingled with white flowers and hazelnuts. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, with a layered core of fruit girdled by racy acids, it has turned out nicely. Winemaker FrĂ©dĂ©ric Barnier and his team have produced another strong portfolio chez Jadot, with a relatively abundant crop of charming, pure and demonstrative wines, with alcohol back in more normal territory after the highs of 2018, 2019 and 2020. As I’ve written before, in the cellar, foudres and 500-liter barrels now complement classic 228-liter pièces, a further evolution adapting to warmer, riper vintages. A cold room also helps chill down any fruit that’s too warm when it enters the winery. 2022 is also the second vintage of organic conversion for the Domaine Louis Jadot and the Domaine Gagey.
