VIN96 The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is outrageously beautiful. Rich, vivid and wonderfully deep, the 2018 hits so many high notes. Inky dark fruit, graphite, spice, leather, licorice and expressive earthy nuances are all laced together. In the glass, the 2018 is deep yet also light on its feet, with tremendous flavor intensity and superb balance. It is also one of the very best values in top-flight Napa Valley Cabernet. Don’t miss it.
Estate Notes: Very floral, with beautiful violet, rose petal and fresh black currant, light roasted coffee bean and black licorice aromas. Bright, refined, very long and complex in the mouth with a delicious cherry fruit character and tiers of floral, spice and mineral notes. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon has a classic, elegant structure, refined tannin and a refreshing juiciness. Elegant, classic, very long and so delicious that it demands another glass. 350 cases produced.
William Ferdinand Detert, known to friends and family as W.F., came to the US in 1866. He opened and operated the Argonaut Mine in Jackson, CA which he sold in 1912.
Pursuing the promise of riches during the California Gold Rush, emigrated to the US from Germany. He literally “strikes gold.”
The Detert wines are crafted by Tom Garrett, one of the three great-grandsons behind the Detert label. In his youth, Tom (along with his brother John and cousin Bill) got his start in winemaking while helping the family make small batches of Cabernet Franc at home in the garage. But his career in the wine industry really began in 1999 when he joined Turley Wine Cellars in St. Helena to learn the craft as a cellar hand. From there, he spent 15 years working with exceptional winemaking mentors at some of Napa Valley’s finest wineries including Joseph Phelps, Robert Mondavi and Revana Family Vineyards.
