A Wine Spectrum favorite, and we have to say this is easily our favorite Cabernet under $30 bottle each and every vintage. Fortune 1621 is the second label from Darms Lane. The winemaker Brian Mox has made wine at Laird, Etude, and was head winemaker at Lewis Cellars from ’07-’12 (’10 Lewis Cabernet made #9 on the top 100 from Wine Spectator). Brian has the talent to create excellent small production Cabernets, that show a richness but have balanced acidity and tannins for great age-ablility. It’s everything you want from Napa Cab at a steal of a price.
The 2016 was recently released, and WOW, this wine is excellent! As the wine opens, it gains body and a rich, heady bouquet. Showing dark plums, cassis, violets, hints of vanilla and caramel even, nice spices and earth tones that are so subtle they are hardly there. Full body, with great texture and a wonderful mouth feel that is inviting and beckons for another sip.
Just named the #9 wine of 2018, If you have never tried this wine before this is the vintage to buy! A great wine for entertaining, it is sure to make heads turn. At this price point, I recommend buying multiple cases for parties ahead!
