Banshee Cabernet Front Label

2013 Banshee Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

Wine Spectrum 94: The 2013 vintage was like a sister to the previous year. A temperate spring led to a nice healthy set. Copious amounts of sunshine and a long, warm September and October led to optimal ripeness levels with little inclement weather driving the decision making process. The clusters were all very clean and of high integrity. In this vintage we jettisoned many of our blending components into the Mordecai blend and let the Cabernet speak more directly. The lone blending component was a parcel of Cabernet Franc from Howell Mountain that added both aroma and an herbal undercurrent. The resulting wine is like a bridge between the styles of yesterday’s Napa Valley and today. The aroma spectrum is one of dark blackberry, clove and mocha. The flavors are well delineated and comprised of dark cherry, plums, blackberry, sage, mineral and touch of cocoa. 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc.

Wolfs Head 20122012 Wolf’s Head Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

Wine Spectrum 94+: Upon initial pour, the Wolf’s Head Cabernet has aromas of fresh leather, earthy minerals and dusty graphite. With some time in the glass these characteristics evolve into sweet, dark cherries, dried cranberries and red currants with hints of pencil shavings and dried tobacco. Flavors of fresh dark red cherries and black currants dominate the palate with notes of ripe black plums and graphite. This is an excellent first effort with great fruit extraction and long, chalky tannins. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. About 450 cases produced. Wolf’s Head is a brand new project from proprietor and winemaker Cameron Woodbridge, who also owns the Stormy Weather label.

S70202010 Saint Helena Winery ‘Estate’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

Wine Spectrum 95+: Our estate vineyard is situated at the east end of Pratt Avenue in the Saint Helena appellation of Napa Valley along the Napa River. Our Consulting Winemaker, Aaron Pott, purchased fruit from our estate in the early 2000’s for another notable Napa Valley winery, and now he works intimately with our vineyards to create distinctive Cabernet Sauvignons reflecting our terrior. This wine has aromas of red cherry and cedar, with a hint of spicy clove. The velvety mid palate and smooth tannins carry flavors of raspberry and mocha with a hint of toffee. Aged 22 months in French oak barrels, this wine will evolve nicely in the cellar for ten years or more. 98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot. Our vineyard is managed by Elizabeth Tangney and our estate crew, with consulting from winemaker Aaron Pott and viticulture guru, Jim Barbour.
