It’s not often you find a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from a prime Oakville vineyard that clocks in right in the $50 range. But Hoopes Vineyard, just down the road from To Kalon and countless $300+ bottles, has been doing just that for decades, delivering powerhouse quality at a price that seems almost too good to be true.
Grown on the Hoopes family’s historic ten-acre plot in Oakville, this wine carries the pedigree of its high-dollar neighbors. Before they started bottling their own wine in 1999, the Hoopes family’s Cabernet grapes were sought after by Napa’s elite producers. Now, their own label has become the benchmark for serious, accessibly priced Napa Cab.
The 2019 vintage continues that legacy, coming from a year hailed as “Extraordinary” by the critics. Deep ruby in the glass, it bursts with layers of black cherry, currant, and dark-roast espresso, framed by bold yet supple tannins that lead to a long, lingering finish.
This is the gold standard of a fine Napa Cabernet without the three-digit price tag.

2019 Hoopes Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
JD93 The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is a clear step up and is a bigger, richer, deeper wine compared to the more forward 2018. Red and black fruits, iris, violets, and spicy notes flow to a medium to full-bodied, velvety textured, balanced Cabernet that is a stunning value.
Estate Notes: Aromas of carved Spanish cedar and lit tobacco float through the air. On the palate, beautiful and whimsical notes of black twizzlers, rolled tobacco leaves, and earthy fennel fronds give way to a soft transition into the lengthy finish full of velvety melted dark chocolate and salty sour umeboshi plums. 78% Cabernet Sauvignon 20% Merlot, 1% Malbec 1% Petite SyrahAged for 28 months in 100% French, 30% New. 4600 cases produced.
