Wine Advisor Stories: Rosé For Every Corner of Summer

Rosé for Every Corner of Summer
Chasing Sun, Breeze, and Memories

Lena and Mark were trying something new this summer.

Having spent the previous few summers exploring new cities abroad, they had a different vision this year. They rented a houseboat on Lake Tahoe. Just the two of them. Twelve days. No plans but to swim, read, grill, and drift.

And they had one very specific request:

“We want a case of rosé. Twelve bottles. One for each day. It has to be perfect. Once we’re on the water, we won’t be able to get any more.”

We couldn’t imagine a more delicious challenge.

We started by asking what summer on the water meant to them. They talked about misty mornings with coffee on the deck. Sunset swims. Spicy shrimp tacos on the grill. A bottle tethered to their paddleboard, chilling in the lake.

The catch?

They were leaving in three weeks, and with summer temps rising, timing the delivery took precision. We got straight to work.

We pulled from the benchmarks: a Provençal rosé so classic it practically hums with lavender, a deep pink Tavel with enough grip for grilled vegetables, and a Rosé Champagne for a final sunset toast. From there, we added some unexpected twists too: a high-altitude Italian rosé with alpine herbs, a Spanish bottle from Gran Canaria that brought volcanic minerality, and a Sonoma Coast rosé that whispered of redwood groves and sea spray (just in case they were missing the ocean a little bit).

Around each bottle, we draped a hand-written tag with a prompt to set the mood: “For Slow Dancing at Golden Hour,” “For Toes-In-The-Water Toasts,” “For Making it Last,” etc.

We finalized the case, packed it with care, and watched the weather. A 48-hour safe shipping window was on the horizon, and when it arrived, we coordinated directly with the marina staff to ensure a seamless delivery. The box was signed for by the dockmaster, tucked safely in the galley fridge, and waiting on the boat the morning they arrived: chilled, labeled, and ready to cast off.

Twelve days.

Twelve bottles.

Zero stress.

The way summer should be.
